Their stories, their recovery, their experience with Pour.
When I first started working with Berfin, I was exhausted from treatment and navigating the many physical and emotional challenges of recovering from DIEP flap surgery. I didn’t always understand what was happening with my body, and had underlying concerns about internal scarring, long-term disfigurement, and the possibility of lasting mobility limitations. I needed more than help healing from surgery; I needed someone who could help me understand my body and feel confident in the recovery process.
Working with Berfin was an incredibly reassuring experience. She was attentive, thoughtful, and compassionate, and she always made herself available to answer questions and walk me through what I was experiencing. She listened carefully, took my concerns seriously, and helped me feel supported rather than overwhelmed. What stood out most was her understanding that recovery is a whole-body experience, not just about the surgical area. She approached my healing holistically, recognizing how treatment, surgery, scar tissue, mobility, and overall well-being are all connected.
Through our work together, I developed a better understanding of my body and my recovery. I felt more empowered, more confident in my healing, and less fearful about the long-term effects of surgery. Berfin helped me see recovery as a process in which I could actively participate, rather than something that was simply happening to me. I’m deeply grateful for her knowledge, care, and guidance during such a vulnerable time. Her support made a meaningful difference in my recovery and in how I feel about moving forward in my body.

I was lucky enough to be recommended to Berfin by my surgeon. Not only did I find physical relief and de-escalation of tightness, I also received the gift of Berfin’s therapeutic presence and thoughtful education. I am so grateful.

Before my brush with breast cancer, I thought I knew how survivorship would look but I was wrong. Little did I know that overcoming this health crisis would lead to a significant loss of range of motion in my left arm due to the effects of cording. By the time I showed up to my first oncology physical therapy appointment with Berfin my arm felt less like a part of me and more like it belonged on the rusted body of The Wizard of Oz's Tin Man. With Berfin's help, I was able to make a full recovery. She took her time to listen to my concerns and answer my myriad questions. Berfin was so encouraging and that helped to keep me motivated to do my physical therapy exercises at home and showing up for my appointments. I was very lucky to have been under her care. From the first appointment and until now, Berfin has made herself a resource for me and with her expertise and sweet nature, I wish that she could be my doctor for all of my healthcare needs.

I am so grateful to have had Dr. Berfin Mahmut by my side through my cancer journey. She is compassionate, caring, and truly listens. Her kindness and humor have made a difficult journey feel a little less frightening and a lot less tense. I feel incredibly blessed to have her as part of my recovery journey. She is an exceptional doctor and an even more exceptional human being.
